Dr. Oscar Torres

Director of Special education

 

Dr. Oscar Torres currently serves as the Director of Special Education for Excelsior Charter Schools. With over two decades of dedicated service in education, Oscar brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to student success. Oscar has held a variety of leadership roles including Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, Principal, Coordinator, and College and Career Readiness. Prior to joining leadership, Oscar served as a general education and special education teacher for grades 6th through 12th.

Oscar is committed to providing opportunities, supporting, and leading change that enhances student success. His commitment to providing the best quality experience for all students is at the forefront of his actions as he supports, nurtures, and guides families through the educational process at Excelsior. Oscar is student first and believes in the Excelsior mission statement,  "Together, preparing all students to be successful adults."

Excelsior Charter Schools provides students with disabilities a free appropriate public education. We are an independent study charter school with options for on-campus support. Excelsior provides an inclusion model in which all students are educated in the general education environment to the greatest extent appropriate for each student's individual needs. Excelsior offers all services outlined in a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), including but not limited to: specialized academic instruction, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, and college/career awareness. Excelsior provides these services either in-house or contracted with a nonpublic agency.

CHILD FIND

Child Find is a critical component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). It ensures that all children with disabilities, regardless of their severity, receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE).
